...HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED OVER CENTRAL ILLINOIS OVER THE NEXT FEW
DAYS...
An unseasonably warm and moist air mass will overspread the
region, with several rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected
from late this evening through Wednesday morning. Rainfall totals
of 2 to 4 inches are likely over much of central and southeast
Illinois, with the heaviest amounts centered along a Saint Louis
to Danville line. There is also potential for significant
rainfall late in the week as well, especially over southeast
Illinois.
While portions of central Illinois have seen drought conditions
recently, the excessive rainfall will eventually begin to run off.
A lack of active vegetation will increase the rate of runoff as
well. This amount of rain will result in rises on area rivers and
streams, which may cause flooding to develop. People with
interests along area rivers should monitor later forecasts for
updates on this situation.
